Our Method

How We Prepare Students

  1. We begin with an initial assessment to identify strengths, gaps, and priority areas. This allows us to tailor preparation from the very first session.

  2. Each student receives a personalised plan aligned with the Perse entrance requirements. Tutors create bespoke lesson content and targeted homework.

  3. Students work through licensed & hand-crafted exam papers, with unlimited online practice tests that replicate the real assessment format, all while tracking performance to ensure steady improvement.

  4. Beyond academic preparation, we prepare students for interviews and group activities, building confidence, clarity of expression and readiness for assessment day.

Many families use online platforms such as Atom for extra practice. These can be useful, but they work best when paired with expert tutoring. Our role is to identify the root cause of mistakes, teach the underlying method, provide written feedback, and guide parents through the entrance process.

“Richard provided outstanding support preparing our son for the 11+ entrance exams for The Perse and The Leys. He was highly organised, knowledgeable about the exam requirements, and kept us on track with clear communication and deadline reminders. He built great rapport with our son, made sessions engaging, and boosted his confidence with clear explanations and targeted feedback. We highly recommend him for entrance exam preparation.”

Why us

Our background at The Perse

We both joined The Perse in Year 7 and left in Year 13. Seven years inside the school, then 2+ years each guiding families through the exact process your child is about to start.

Entrance Exam Tutors was founded by Richard and Freddie, who each spent seven years at The Perse — Year 7 through to Year 13 — and have 2+ years each preparing candidates since. Both of us teach every Perse entry level. Richard went on to Maths, Further Maths, Computer Science and Economics; Freddie to Maths, Biology and Chemistry.

Because we went through the process ourselves, we bring up-to-date, first-hand knowledge of both the entrance assessments and the culture of the school. We know what the examiners are looking for, how the interview feels, and what it takes to thrive at Perse from day one.

Beyond exam technique, we help students develop the qualities The Perse values most: intellectual curiosity, genuine confidence, valuing one another, and the ability to think independently.
