Our story
About Entrance Exam Tutors
We believe the private school admissions process should feel structured, supported, and achievable — not opaque or overwhelming.
Why we exist
School-specific tutoring for the UK's most selective schools
Entrance Exam Tutors was founded on a straightforward observation: most tutoring companies treat all selective school preparation as interchangeable. A child preparing for The Perse School gets the same approach as a child preparing for a local grammar school. That's not good enough.
The UK's leading independent schools — Eton, Winchester, The Perse, Westminster, St Paul's — each have distinct exam styles, mark schemes, interview formats, and admissions cultures. Understanding those differences is the difference between a prepared candidate and an unprepared one.
Our tutors attended these schools themselves. They sat the same entrance papers, went through the same interviews, and navigated the same admissions process. That lived experience is something no textbook or generic preparation programme can replicate.
Values
What we believe
Tutors who know the exam
Our tutors attended the same schools your child is targeting. They bring first-hand knowledge, not theoretical preparation.
School-specific over generic
Each target school has its own style and expectations. We build programmes around those specific demands, not a one-size-fits-all framework.
Progress should be visible
Parents deserve to know exactly where their child stands. Our member portal makes scores, feedback, and progress completely transparent.
The process should feel manageable
Admissions is stressful enough. Our structured approach removes guesswork and gives families a clear, confident path through the process.
Research-backed
Are student tutors actually effective?
It's one of the most common questions we hear. The answer is yes — and the research supports it.
Peer-effect learning
Students learning from near-peers often retain more than from older adult instructors. The communication style feels natural, the examples are relevant, and the advice is grounded in recent lived experience.
First-hand admissions knowledge
A tutor who attended The Perse School last year knows what the interviewers were asking, what the marking style was like, and how the admissions process actually felt. An adult tutor is working from secondary information at best.
Motivation and relatability
Younger students often engage more readily with a tutor who feels like a slightly older version of themselves — someone who remembers exactly what it was like to be nervous about an entrance exam, because they were nervous about the same one not long ago.
